Dirk Caluwaerts
Dirk Caluwaerts was born in Bornem on February 8, 1964. His got his first trumpet lessons in the Bornem Academy of Music by Ernest Lenaerts.
Studies at the Royal Flemish Music Conservatory followed: Dirk took lessons with Marcel Valgaeren for trumpet and chamber music at Theo Mertens. Consequently, he studied for two years in the class of Dirk Brossé in Ghent and obtained the Higher Diploma.
Initially he worked as a trumpet solo in the former New Flemish Symphony Orchestra (with conductors Patrick Peire, Robert Groslot and Fabrice Bollon).
Since 1984 he started as a bugle player in the band of the gendarmerie, and two years later a similar function in the Symphonic Band of the Belgian Guides, where he successively hold the positions of second solo cornet and 2nd soloist trumpet, and currently serves as the second soloist Bugle.
Dirk composed many educational repertoire for brass and several arrangements.
