Jan Blockx was a Belgian composer and a student of Carl Reinecke and Peter Benoit. Due to the international success of his operas, he played a significant role in the spread of Flemish music. His most famous work is 5 Vlaamse dansen - 5 Flemish Dances, originally composed for orchestra and inspired by Flemish folklore. The first dance stands out for its elegance and intricate rhythmic interplay.
